RARE FIND - OTTO LUCAS 1960s Flower Pot / Toque HAT.
1960s original toque hat by Otto Lucas - Junior* in black and cream striped fur.
The hat is designed to be worn perched at the back of the head framing the face.
Otto Lucas was a German born London based milliner running a high end hat making studio in Bond Street from the 1930’s to the 1970s. His clients included Greta Garbo and Wallis Simpson. He also designed for leading fashion designers and his hats featured on at least 12 Vogue Magazine covers.
His reputation was international and he was very much responsible for placing London as a centre for millinery in the 1950’s and 60’s.
The Otto Lucas - Junior* range was sold in Harrods and was a more accessible range for stylish customers at slightly more affordable prices.
Examples of both labels are held in the Museum of London’s Fashion Collection.
A bit of history on the provenance….
This hat was purchased as part of the extensive wardrobe belonging to an astute woman of fashion (I call her Leopard Lady as she loved leopard print) who lived to 100 years. Her daughter informed me that up until the age of 70 she always wore heels, hats and a handbag and was recognized and admired in her local high street in the Midlands.
The collection purchased includes coats, blouses, dresses, bags, hats (Large fit) and shoes (size 39 / 40) which will all be listed for sale.
